Ok, so I’m going to start out with saying… It’s about fucking time that Martin Scorsese received an Academy Award. I mean the guy has been one of the most influential filmmakers in American movie history. O yeah, and how cool was it to see Coppola, Lucas, and Spielberg? I know that they are major Hollywood players but still it was cool to see them present Scorsese with the best director award. Big up’s to Marty.
Now for NBC’s new gangster drama The Black Donnellys… I will admit it, I am going to watch the show next week.
Reasons:
Is it because the show is that outstanding? No, it’s because Heroes is on first and I LOVE that show. So I’ll stick around to how Donnellys show turns out.
What I think about the show:
I think the show has potential and I like how the story is narrated form an outsider’s perspective. Also any time a child can drop an F-bomb on network TV I am stoked.
What I did not like about the show:
It was kind of cheesy at times and sum what predictable, but I can get over that. The thing I did not like the most was that fact that the kid form The Sandlot was playing a hard ass, street thug, gangster. He is should be trying to learn how to play baseball, playing with 10 year olds, believing bull shit stories about guard dogs who protects a house with junk surrounding it (that shit bring down property values, and the neighbors never said anything?), not kidnap mafia members and so support deadbeat family members. When he as acting like a hard-ass (and you could TELL he was acting) I just could not take him seriously.
And last… Hail in San Francisco.
I don’t know? I just thought it was cool. I’m serious, that shit was cool.

The Black Donnellys caught my attention at first, but it just hasn't generated enough interest with me to get me to watch it. And I can't stand Heroes, so I can't even use that excuse. I hadn't realized the kid from the Sandlot was in there, either. Haha, I think that would just make it even harder for me to take the show seriously.
I'm also glad they finally gave Scorsese a damn Oscar. I was looking for a news story about it, and I came across this story about him finally being up for an Oscar, only to find that it was actually about when he was up for the award for "The Aviator". Poor man, they've been dangling it in front of him for years.
Amen on Marty getting the Big One. He's made some amazing films over the years, my favorites being the Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, and Casino. But what really makes him a great director in my mind is that he can make a movie about something I wouldn't give a damn about and would probably not want to watch, but after seeing it through his eyes, I'm blown away. Gangs of New York comes to mind.
Check out this funny commercial with Marty.
